Our Values Update 2025

The Beacon is a foundation cooperative trust school.

We are excited to share with you a significant development in our school's journey: the establishment of our new school values. After careful consideration and collaboration with students, staff and our wider school community, we have identified a set of guiding principles that will shape our approach to education and student development.

These values are not just words on a page: they represent the core of our school and will inform everything we do, from classroom interactions to community events. We believe these values will empower our students to become responsible, compassionate and successful individuals.

Our new core values (with examples) are:

Bravery - ‘I can do hard things.' ‘I enjoy challenges.’ ‘If I fail, I keep trying.’ ‘I will try something new.’

Encouragement - ‘I look after others.’ ‘I help others.’ ‘I say well done to others.’ ‘If I do something well, I recognise this.'

Achievement- ‘I work hard.’ ‘I do my best.’ ‘I will leave school with lots to be proud of because of my efforts.’ ‘I am now a sports leader.'

Curiosity - ‘I have a strong desire to learn something new.’ ‘I like to learn.’ ‘I am not afraid to have a go.’ ‘I am interested in lots of things.’

Opportunity - ‘I give everything a try.’ ‘I treat everything with respect (equal opportunity).’ ‘My behaviour in class helps us all to learn.’ ‘I take every opportunity to learn.’

Nurture - ‘I look after my own and others wellbeing.’ ‘I take care of myself and other people.’ ‘I help others learn.’ ‘If I am struggling with something, I speak to a teacher.’ ‘I listen…’

These values will be integrated into our curriculum, school policies and daily interactions. We will be working with our pupils to understand and embody these principles, and we encourage you to discuss them at home as well.

We believe that by working together we can create a nurturing and inspiring environment where every pupil can thrive. We are committed to providing a holistic education that prepares our pupils for success in their academic, personal and professional lives.
